If you caught BET’s freshman show The Quad when it debuted last year, you know it’s a fresh, if pretty dramatic, take on life on a Black college campus. Starring Anika Noni Rose and veteran actor Ruben Santiago Hudson, it provided BET with the opportunity to start a new original TV show franchise after the success of Being Mary Jane.

Now that Being Mary Jane is done after its climactic 2-hour movie scheduled to air next year, The Quad has the potential to be the next of BET’s top original shows. So its no surprise that Season 2, due in January has added some familiar faces.

Shadowandact.com reports:

Stars Anika Noni Rose and Ruben Santiago-Hudson are returning, as well as series regulars Peyton Alex Smith, Jazz Raycole, Zoe Renee, Jake Allyn, Michelle DeFraites and Sean Blakemore.

Recurring cast members joining this season are Antwan “Big Boi” Patton Sr., Sheryl Lee Ralph, Debbi Morgan and RonReaco Lee, along with Jasmine Guy who recurred heavily in the first season.

Lee is reprising his role from an episode in Season 1, in which he played a rival band director.

Season 2’s description: It’s Spring semester and Georgia A&M’s survival as an independent, historically Black university hangs in a precarious balance as the driven Dr. Eva Fletcher (Rose) struggles to raise capital for the nearly bankrupt institution.

If she fails, the school may be forced to join Georgia’s large, public and predominantly White university system in order to keep its doors open. Students protest, allegiances are challenged and friendships are jeopardized as students, faculty and the administration struggle to define their place in the fight while our freshman class also deals with the stress of pledging, hazing, academic probation, post-traumatic stress, hate crime attacks and prescription drug abuse.

Season 2 will premiere on January 23, 2018 at 10 p.m.
